Wrinkled Reels

Written by Ron Schnitzius

Directed by Bobbi Van Howe

The third in the Wrinkled trilogy, Wrinkled Reels picks up the story of the State Home for the Aged after life has calmed down post-rebellion. Still present are the Director Oliver, Bess, Hank, Sylvia and Willard Dingle. Thurman Kelp is still bumbling around as well. There is a new male nurse who has aspirations to be an actor. In residence is a reclusive old movie star. She has not been heard from for many years. Her presence inspires another plot to bring exposure to the home in hopes of getting more government money. A director decides to film at the home and lines up an OLD used-to-be heart throb from the movies who often starred with the reclusive old actress. The reunion of the two is the whole gist of the film.

The male orderly finds her dead in her room. Fearing all the publicity will be lost if people find out, the male nurse/orderly is convinced by Bess and the gang to use his acting skills and dress up in drag and play the old actress. No one has seen her in years and they all think he can pull it off. Things then run amok. The flamingly gay director has an assistant who is a hoot. The camera gal catches the eye of the nurse/"actress" and what can he do about it while in drag and Thurman is determined to get into the film somehow.

Wrinkled Reels is a very cute show and there are some monologues that are thought provoking about the changes in society that the old folks have seen, and more of the plight of the aged.

Character Description

  • Willard Dingle: 81 year old retierd mailman.  A foil for Hank, he's decent and loves to tell long stories (a Pa Kettle type).
  • Felicia Farthingame: Assistant to the State Governor.  Very uptight and opinionated.  Stuffy and rude.
  • Hank Froebisch: 83 year old retired bug exterminator.  Cranky and opinionated.  So cheap he won't get rid of his stinking old work clothes (a Walter Mathau type).
  • Maudie Hatfield: The 89 year old head nurse at "State".  Practically senile, completely muddled.  Nice but no memory and confused throughout the play.
  • Thurman Kelp: Maintenance man at "State".  Very redneck and pushy.
  • Oliver Peabody: 46 year old Director of the State Home for the Aged.  Decent but a little fussy.  Long suffering with Maudie and Hank.
  • Sylvia Ploppett: 78 year old retired librarian.  Smart, decent.  Trying to be a kid again, she's always putting moves on the guys.
  • Bess Sims: 76 year old English war bride.  Smart, plucky, and has a cockney brogue.
  • Danny Tater: 26 year old would-be actor.  He's working as a nursing assistant at "State".  Decent and sincere.  (This actor must look and be able to double in a role as Penelope Penbroke, an ancient silent film actress).

  • Beauregard Valentine: Very old silent film star.  Lecherous.
  • Ginny Wasselman: 27 year old Cameraperson.  Smart, vivacious.
