A Holiday Box of Laughs: Christmas at the Playhouse 2025!

 

This holiday season, Main Street Productions invites audiences to celebrate laughter, music, and cheer at Christmas at the Playhouse: An Evening of Holiday Shorts by Mark Harvey Levine, opening December 5 at the Basile Westfield Playhouse.

 

Audiences will enjoy three hilarious and heartwarming one-act plays by award-winning, internationally renowned playwright Mark Harvey Levine, with live holiday carols performed between each show.

Audiences will be treated to three unique holiday stories:

Oy Vey Maria

Experience the Nativity story like never before! When Mary’s very Jewish mother shows up at the manger with brisket, opinions, and plenty of family drama, holiday traditions collide in this witty and irreverent parody. Full of laughs, chaos, and heartfelt moments, Oy Vey Maria turns a classic tale upside down and proves that family is always at the heart of the holidays.

 

Les Miserabelves

What do Rudolph, melodramatic elves, and toy store misfits have in common? Everything! Les Miserabelves is a hilarious musical mash-up of Les Misérables and holiday chaos, including snowstorms, over-the-top songs, and Rankin/Bass-style antics. This show delivers festive fun for musical lovers and anyone who enjoys a good laugh.

 

A Very Special Hanukkah Special

A hilarious twist on a holiday classic! In this fast-paced fantasy, Murray Baum wishes Hanukkah could become the major holiday. Suddenly, his world is turned upside down. A parody of It’s A Wonderful Life, A Very Special Hanukkah Special blends magical mishaps, witty humor, and a surprisingly sweet message about tradition and meaning.

 

Mark Harvey Levine is a widely produced short play writer, with over 2,300 productions of his work staged across more than 30 countries, from Bangalore to Bucharest and South Korea to South Africa. His plays have appeared in over two dozen anthologies, and full evenings of his work, including Didn’t See That Coming and A Very Special Holiday Special, have been performed internationally, including at the renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Earlier this year, a full evening of his plays premiered in Brazil (in Portuguese!) under the title “Surpresa.” Meanwhile, another collection, Cabfare For The Common Man, is currently running at MadLab Theatre in Columbus, OH. Westfield Playhouse audiences may remember Levine’s work from the 2022 production of Christmas at the Playhouse, which featured his plays “A Requiem For Shermy” and “Last Minute Shoppers”. Levine is proudly based in Indianapolis, where he lives with his wife Sara, his son Nick, and their dog Ginger.

 

This is one of our most fun and festive productions of the year. It’s a perfect night out for families, friends, and anyone looking to celebrate the season with laughter, music, and holiday cheer, all while supporting Main Street Productions and our work in the community.
