How to Prepare
Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Please bring a theatrical resume and all conflicts from January 8th - March 29th to auditions.

NOTE
Those cast must be comfortable getting wet - head to toe, but clothed - on stage. Actors will be required to be barefooted, have their bodies submerged in a few inches of water, have water poured over their heads, move in and out of claw foot bathtubs, and move quickly around a wet deck, all while wearing Victorian wedding gowns. This is a physically demanding show.

Please contact the director (molly.bellner@gmail.com) with any specific question prior to auditions.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals will be primarily 4-hour daytime blocks on Saturdays, and 1-2 weekday evenings each week. Due to the nature of the play, all actors will be called to most rehearsals. Please bring any conflicts between January 8th and March 29th to auditions.

Performance Dates
March 19 – March 29, 2026
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shows begin at 7:30PM. Sunday shows begin at 2:30PM.
Synopsis
The Drowning Girls recounts the story of Bessie, Alice and Margaret, three of the many wives of George Joseph Smith, an Edwardian opportunist who made a living marrying women, taking out life insurance policies for them and subsequently drowning them in their baths. Three ghostly brides surface from bathtubs to gather evidence against their womanizing, murderous, husband by reliving the shocking events leading up to their deaths. As they make their case, they discover how they have been victimized not only by George Joseph Smith, but also by society at large. Full of rich images, a myriad of characters, a quirky sense of humour and lyrical language, The Drowning Girls is both breathtaking fantasia and social critique.
